On life and its vagaries

The ancient adjudicator

‘Thoughts” and “impressions’ are how we perceive things, or at least Hume thinks so.  This could be an imaginary conversation with the first addressing the other.  Well then it could be a conversation between God and Devil, Good and Bad, Soul and Super soul, conscious and the unconscious. Possibilities are limitless….

The ancient adjudicator

Come my friend, ancient adjudicator,

Here’s my hand, you did well.

We ‘been pals since the times when

I first saw the world through your benign eyes

Ingenuous world, how could it know?

That we are playing with it, feeding it –

Crumbs from our plates, making it pine for more.

It passes time, doesn’t it, and it makes us laugh

With the lightest of touches we could induce

The greatest of tremors and quickest of corollaries

With the shortest of gestures we could intone

The highest of notes, bound ever in reciprocality…

We retouch obscure images- lying interwoven-

Within their beautifully malleable hearts

They allow us to do it with the least of promptings

And even dramatizes them in the manner we like

Yet all the while we keep them interested and

Grant them the leave to consider themselves-

Our equals, though it never were and would be

They are just our pawns, only they know it not.

Its fun being in this uncertain realm where

What we project becomes the current reality

Yet of late I have begun to wonder whether

This little pond could contain our larger selves
