On life and its vagaries

A tale of old

with 14 comments

It was that same old cat again, hanging on to the same old peg.

She was not in the best of spirits, in point of fact she was pretty pissed insides, but she tried not to show it though.

Bloody hell, she thought, this is no sort of exercise for a cat.

She furiously jumped down and walked over to the hide-out of the mice.

Guys, she said, aw c’mon, if it’s not me, it’s someone else.

You for real?  A chorus asked her.

The cat thought about the futility of the thing and kicked herself. Would the hatred ever subside, would the world ever become peaceful?

She tried to reason with them.

Guys, the world has changed, but you wouldn’t know that would you now, running around in darkness? That thing between the cats and mice are old wives tales. This is the new age of cross species transactions.

Ha ha  is that so……………..?

The mice asked in unison,

……………………and it wasn’t you that just killed our brothers, was it? It was someone else in your guise!

There you are. It was those humans, you know, they can impersonate anyone.

Don’t play with us cat girl, we still pretty much have our instincts intact. We would transact within ourselves, you fat slob.

The chorus said.

By then the cat was growing impatient.

You are a bunch of fools. Do you know what the world really looks like outside, you creatures of the darkness? There is whole universe out there you don’t know about. See that piece of pizza hanging on that wire? I couldn’t get to it, but you could you know, the mouth waters just thinking of it.

We know all about that. Out came the chorus.

Guys, I am trying to help you out here.

By hanging on to the peg playing dead?

I needed the exercise guys; it’s not as of old, we need to look after our old figure nowadays.

By playing that old trick again?

I was doing sit ups on the reverse you idiots, that is, sort of, couldn’t pull myself up, old bones you know, no strength in them. Really guys what are you afraid of, I can’t eat you all, even if I wanted to. I am offering you freedom, think about it, you can’t be shut up in that rat hole all your lives.

She is right. Some hot blood said aloud. There was a murmur of approval from the other youngsters in the micedom.

Shut up you dolt,

(Now the cat could hear an old mouse crying.)

-She is trying to muck our brains up.

But she is right old man. This is no sort of life, we just exist here. There are a lot of things out there in the world; we feel it in our guts.

That’s the spirit the cat encouraged, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The wise old voice again cried.

We are mice; we are not cats to prance about in the light. There could be other cats around.

The cat put in.

Risk is a part of life. Think constructively.

There was a heated debate going on in the Micedom. The cat waited, dreaming about the most mundane of things.

And as sure as hell, the exodus began; even the old guys were out.

The cat chose the fattest one among them. It was easy meat.

As she was about to doze off after the treat, the cat sadly thought.

How can you be wise if you are mice?

  2. Okay there is some truth in the tale. A very aggressive attitude might cow people into submission. It is the new trick in the trade.

  3. no one pulls wool over my eyes.. 🙂 other then conmen.. i have recently been conned by a fraud who runs a ramshackle institute to commit robbery, so i cant say no one.. i can say no ordinary person like you or me alone can pull wool over my eyes, he will have to have a gang of comrades pretending to be staffs of the institute.

  4. Its wonderful that you have such confidence. Yes, if people gang together, they can create havoc in our lives. How do we deal with them? Hard question to answer.

Make the mind stronger would be my suggestion. Hundreds will quake before the will of a single person. It is not of intelligence that I am talking about here. Intelligence would only work up to the point it becomes a personal attack. It will crumble after that.

Will, pure force of will. It could do the trick.

  6. Yes , also think of Gandhi. He had an iron will and even allowed the surgeons to operate on him without anesthetics.

He asked for it and simply put his mind at some place else during the operation. He said he did not feel any pain. Not even a change of color was observed on his face during the procedure. 🙂

Mighty man! No wonder he could sway an entire nation to his will.

  7. dear sam,
i too admire gandhiji, mainly because he saved too many lives because of his non violence principles.. being a student of history i know how many thousand lives he saved, so even though i hero worship subhas chandra bose, who was barred from india by him and nehru.. i truly admire the number of lives his actions saved.

  8. It takes a pretty strong man to convince a desperate people about non-violence and make them stick to it. He was will personified dear Trisha, not many realize it. I may not see eye to eye with him on many points but he was powerful, may be the most powerful man in the last century. He had such clarity of thought too. Wonderful strategist.

Subash Bose is a hero to us all, his deeds inspires love and respect. I know Gandhi tried to and succeeded in ousting him. But Gandhi was a Karma Yogi. He realized the danger of fighting the Empire in its own terms. As you said it would have eliminated hundreds of thousands of people. He did not have any personal grudge against Subash Bose. He did what he thought right. Bose would have become too powerful otherwise. The Mahatma was a good example of a Karma Yogi. Have you read his ‘experiments with truth’? Truly Free org. has it.

  9. i only admire gandhiji’s non violence policy because it has saved too many lives, and he sure knew some magic.. otherwise its not a child’s play to guide thousands of people to nonviolence.. violence is easy 😦 any one can do it with little power of gab.. but nonviolence is not a child’s play.

  10. You are dead right there 🙂

    September 20, 2009 at 5:36 pm

  11. it takes too much courage to take up non violence, that is why my head bows with equal respect to those who suffered brutality without retaliation along with those who sacrificed their priceless life for the country.

  12. It takes control. When we are attacked our first reaction is to retaliate. Even the meek does that. So to curb it and accept beating requires discipline.

  13. precisely.. i too have learnt it with wisdom 🙂 that is why i prefer the war tactics of shivaji.
